Huntsville dumpster permit rules
- Driveway or private property: the City's right-of-way permits don't apply to a dumpster kept fully on your own property. Check your HOA or lease rules.
- Street or sidewalk (City right-of-way): the City of Huntsville says no person may construct or obstruct any right-of-way without first getting a Right of Way Permit from the Engineering Division. The City's permit page doesn't list a fee or a processing time, so call Engineering at 256-427-5300 ([email protected]) before you plan a street placement.
- Huntsville's City Code has a separate dumpster section (Chapter 22, Sec. 22-87). Third-party summaries say it bars placing a dumpster on any City right-of-way or easement. We couldn't open the official code text on Municode to confirm this, so ask Engineering whether a street placement can be permitted at all.
- The City's litter rules say contractors can't put debris on the street for collection, and construction waste from anyone other than a contractor must be containerized.
- These rules cover the City of Huntsville. Madison, Decatur, Athens and unincorporated Madison County set their own rules.
